Caleb Seeling - President
Caleb began working in publishing in 2006 and founded Samizdat Publishing Group in Denver in 2009. The company has since expanded, forming two imprints (Conundrum Press and Samizdat Creative), publishing between 20-30 books altogether each year. An active member of several publishing and arts organizations, Caleb is also a social entrepreneur, finding ways to serve the greater community and disadvantaged youth through strategic partnerships with organizations such as Colorado Business Committee for the Arts and Youth on Record. He is the director of the Certificate in Publishing at Western State Colorado University's MFA program, board member of PubWest, publishing consultant of the International Arts Movement, and member of the Colorado Business Committee for the Arts. He is one of the founding members of Colophon Center.
Frederick Ramey - Vice President
Fred is co-owner and Co-Publisher of one of the country's first decentralized publishing houses, Unbridled Books, a Colorado independent company specializing in commercial literature. Unbridled Books was founded in 2004. Prior to that, he was one of the founding editors of BlueHen Books-Putnam's erstwhile literary imprint-and through the 1990s was Publisher and Executive Editor of MacMurray & Beck, an award-winning independent press in Denver. Before building MacMurray & Beck, Ramey co-founded-in 1982-Arden Press, an independent publisher of scholarly titles in women's studies and film studies. He holds a terminal degree in modern literature from The University of Missouri (1990). He is one of the foundering members of Colophon Center.
Shannon Hassan - Secretary
Shannon is a literary agent at Marsal Lyon Literary Agency, where she enjoys working with authors of fiction and narrative nonfiction, for both adults and kids. Prior to becoming an agent, she was an acquisitions editor at Fulcrum Publishing and a corporate attorney at Arnold & Porter in New York. She received her JD from Harvard and her BA from George Washington University. She has served on the board of several nonprofits, including Horizons K-8 Charter School, PubWest, and the Boulder Writing Studio.
Derek Lawrence - Treasurer
Derek is co-Publisher of Bower House & owner of Imprint Group. He has over 30 years of experience in the book business, having worked at three independent booksellers, including eight years at the Tattered Cover Bookstore in Denver before taking his first publishing job at Roberts Rinehart Publishing. He later held positions at Westcliffe Publishers, Graphic Arts Center Publishing Company, and Interweave Press. In 2002 he formed Speck Press to publish culturally relevant, illustrated nonfiction. Speck was sold to Fulcrum Publishing in 2007 and he was retained as publisher. Derek has served on a number of nonprofits boards including Mountains and Plains Independent Booksellers Association, The Library People, and PubWest, where served a term as President. He is one of the founding members of Colophon Center.
Sandra Bond - Board Member
Sandra is the founder and owner of Denver-based Bond Literary Agency, which represents a broad range of adult nonfiction and adult and young adult fiction. While running her agency, she also worked as the program administrator at the University of Denver's Publishing Institute from 2005-2009, and now guest lectures at the Institute’s annual summer program. She also regularly presents a Publishing 101 class at writers conferences around the country. Before pursuing a career in publishing, she was a film and television script analyst in Los Angeles. Sandra is a Denver native and has a degree in microbiology from the University of Colorado, Boulder.
Danny Rosen - Board Member
In 2008 Danny Rosen started Lithic Press which specializes in making fine books of poems. In 2015 he opened the Lithic Bookstore and Gallery, an independent bookstore in downtown Fruita, Colorado specializing in poetry and science with a large selection of books on local, regional, and natural history. Following high school, Danny spent many years rock climbing in far flung parts of the world before he decided to learn about the rocks he was climbing on and began to study geology at the University of Wyoming. Most of his career was spent working in geology, astronomy, and education. For many years he gave astronomy presentations in schools throughout western Colorado in the portable Western Sky Planetarium. Part of each year between 2003 and 2008 he ran an observatory and taught astronomy and geology in Namibia in southern Africa. His full length collection of poems entitled, Primate Poems, was published in 2016.
